What does Runeskald mean?

Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die, O brave Sir Robin!
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways,
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin!

(Monty Python and the Holy Grail)

...A reader or writer of poetry

Rune refers to the runic alphabets; they are a set of related alphabets using letters known as runes to write various Germanic languages prior to the adoption of the Latin alphabet and for specialized purposes thereafter.

Rune is derived from the Old Norse word "rún" meaning "secret lore".

A Skald was a member of a group of poets, whose courtly poetry is associated with the courts of Scandinavian and Icelandic leaders during the Viking age. Performance of skaldic poetry was spoken, not sung or chanted. Skaldic verse was complex, and usually composed as a tribute or homage to a particular king. Skaldic verse was sometimes also improvisational, satirical and very occasionally, erotic. Unlike many other literary forms of the time, much skaldic poetry is attributable to an author.

Why is your website called Runeskald Dot Net?

I needed a domain name and at the time, I had no idea what I would use the domain for other than e-mail. My e-mail brings me information from all over the world which is the job bards used to do. I am interested in Vikings and a Viking bard is a skald. I really like Celtic artwork, the knot work is beautiful and the inscribed rune stones are intriguing. I enjoy renaissance fairs and have dressed up for Halloween as a bard. I even play some musical instruments, albeit not very well. By definition of the words and because of my interests Runeskald seemed to fit. Dot Com was taken by Runeskald Press (I think) so I took Dot Net…

… So goes the legend of Runeskald Dot Net
